Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • cups warm water
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp honey (for boiling water)
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add bread flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms (about 10 minutes).
Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add honey to the boiling water.
Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes per side, then place them on a baking sheet.
Add desired toppings (e.g., sesame seeds, poppy seeds).
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
    Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a chewier texture, boil the bagels for 2 minutes per side.
  • Store bagels in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Customize with your favorite toppings or seasonings.
